Tirzepatide: what it is and who it is for.
Tirzepatide is a prescription-only medicine used in weight management, alongside diet and physical activity. This page explains how it works, who it may be suitable for, who it is not suitable for, and what our online assessment involves.

Prescription only
Tirzepatide is only supplied if a UK-registered prescriber decides it is suitable for you, after reviewing your assessment.

How tirzepatide works
Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) acts on two hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, rather than one. It is a prescription-only medicine and is not suitable for everyone.
- Dual-Action MechanismActivates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, which are involved in appetite and blood sugar control.
- Alongside Diet and ActivityPrescribed as part of a plan that includes a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity, not instead of them.
- Licensed in the UKLicensed for weight management in adults with a qualifying BMI. Your prescriber decides whether it is suitable for you.
Safety & Information
Patient Confidentiality
Your programme is entirely private. Your consultation is encrypted in transit and at rest, your health information stays with our own clinical and pharmacy team, and your medication is shipped in plain unbranded packaging with no pharmacy markings on the exterior. We never sell your data or share it for marketing.
How is Mounjaro® administered?
Mounjaro® is a once-weekly subcutaneous injection using a pre-filled auto-injector pen. Starting dose is 2.5mg, titrated gradually up to a maximum of 15mg based on your clinical response and tolerance.
Side Effects
Most common are gastrointestinal - nausea, reduced appetite, and mild diarrhoea - particularly in the early weeks. These typically reduce as your body adjusts to the medication.
